The region was an important XIXth century coffee production, and was the road undertaken by the Emperor D. Pedro I to Sao Paulo in the Independence historical proclamation.

Before this the region was the route for gold and precious stones runoff from Minas Gerais to the port of Parati, destined to Europe.

The road that connects Bananal and Silveiras is the Tropeiros Road, the old road between Rio-São Paulo.

The region is located at the extreme East in the State of Sao Paulo, between the States of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, surrounded by the Bocaina and the Mantiqueira Mountains, on the Paraiba Valley.

The historical valley is formed by the towns of Areias, Arapeí, Bananal, Silveiras, São Jose do Barreiro and Queluz. It has abundant historical, gastronomic, cultural and ecological richness.
There are many touristic circuits, gastronomic and cultural. To know more click on the link of “ASSOCIAÇÃO ROTEIRO CAMINHOS DA CORTE” in which Vargem Grande Farm is a member (check number 9 on the map of the website bellow.)
